Design the Steering Wheel for the Bloodhound Supersonic Car

Altair and GrabCAD have Challenge you to design the steering wheel for the Bloodhound supersonic car!

The Bloodhound SSC is a jet and rocket powered car designed to go at 1,000 mph (just over 1,600 kph). It has a slender body of approximately 14m length with two front wheels within the body and two rear wheels mounted externally within wheel fairings. It weighs over 7 tonnes and the engines produce more than 135,000 horsepower – more than 6 times the power of all the Formula 1 cars on a starting grid put together!

The Car is a mix of car and aircraft technology, with the front half being a carbon fibre monocoque like a racing car and the back half being a metallic framework and panels like an aircraft.

Requirements

  • Design can be submitted in either 2D or 3D CAD file.
  • Design must incorporate triggers to light up and increase power of the rocket and to shut the rocket down.
  • Design must incorporate 1 button to deploy the airbrake.
  • Design must incorporate 2 buttons to deploy brake chutes (main and backup).
  • Every entry must include the designers name and surname, brief design notes explaining the rationale behind the design and dashboard view.

Rules

  • The challenge is open to everyone.
  • Team entries are welcome. In case of team win, prize will be transferred to team leader who is solely responsible for splitting it among team members.
  • You can submit several entries.
  • Only entries uploaded to GrabCAD library through this challenge page here will participate in the competition.
  • Tag your model with “BLOODHOUND”. Only entries with valid tag will participate!
  • By entering this competition, you 1. Warrant that the work is your original work. 2. To the best of your knowledge, it is not, and has not been in production or otherwise previously published or exhibited. 3. Neither the work nor its use infringes the intellectual property rights (whether a patent, utility model, functional design right, aesthetic design right, trade mark, copyright or any other intellectual property right) of any other person.
  • Applicants are not entitled to any compensation or reimbursement for any costs. The applicant’s participation shall not constitute employment, assignment or offer of employment or assignment.
  • Winning designs will be chosen based on the rules and requirements.
  • This Challenge starts on December 19, 2012 and ends on January 31, 2013, at Last Time Zone.
  • The winners will be announced at the Product Innovation (PI) Congress on 19th Feb 2013, and in the event show guide, as well as on GrabCAD not before Feb. 19, 2013.
