BMW’s Carbon Fibre Clad Solar Powered Carport Concept

With the electric powered BMW i3 on the market and the i8 not too far behind, the German outfit along with the team over at Designworks USA have come up with this amazing solar car port concept.

The designers have taken inspiration from both cars use of composite materials with carbon fibre joints connecting to the bamboo structure. Glass-on-glass solar panels have been installed to the top and are guaranteed to charge you beloved i-mobile for at least 30 years.

The solar carport not only guarantees the supply of green power but furthermore allows for energy self-sufficiency, so that customers remain independent of electricity prices. In conjunction with the BMW i Wallbox Pro, the car can be charged with solar electricity from the carport. The Wallbox also indicates the amount of solar energy that goes into the car and provides an analysis of recent charging processes which shows the respective proportions of solar and grid power. If the solar panels provide energy beyond the requirements of the vehicle, this surplus solar power can be used instead around the house.
