This course will be delivered by John Dickens, Technical Editor of Complete Kitcar Magazine and author of the book ‘Automotive Fibreglass. Fabrication and Repair.’
After a very successful series of courses involving lectures and demonstrations we have decided to revise the format of these sessions entirely so that they will become largely ‘hands on’ with the candidates themselves using the actual GRP materials.
Initially they will be introduced to the basic tools and materials used in the GRP laminating process along with any Health and safety issues associated with them. They will then use the materials to produce basic laminations which will also incorporate simple techniques used to increase strength and rigidity in mouldings. More advanced techniques including copying and fabrication, plug and mould making, strengthening methods, fasteners and fixings, special materials and gelcoat and structural repairs may also be discussed or demonstrated. The aim of the session is to give a ‘taster’ of the possibilities made available by GRP to anyone who has limited or even no experience whatever by allowing them to use the materials in a safe and well supervised environment. During the session every attempt will be made to answer specific questions and, if possible, illustrate the answer using the actual materials.
In order to maintain safe working practices the number of places on each course will be limited so they will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Every effort will be made to place group applications from clubs or organisations together on the same course.
Course timing will be from 9.00am to approximately 3.30pm.
Please note. If you want to purchase materials on the day of the course it is best to order in advance so that your order will be ready to collect when you are ready to leave.
You can place your order via the website and check customer collection, phone the order in the day before or simply visit the trade counter and place your order before the course starts. Everything will be ready for you to collect when the course has ended.
The shop will be open from 9.00 am until 1.30 pm on the day.
