Johns Manville Announces Investment Plans for Glassfibre Production in Europe

Johns Manville have announced plans to expand current fibre production capacities in its Trnava, Slovakia facility.

In 2004 Johns Manville invested in a European greenfield project to produce glass fibres and today the expansion plan announcement for its European production in Slovakia demonstrates clearly its commitment to the European composites business.

Enno Henze, vice president and general manager for Engineered Products Europe/Asia stated

We feel confident that this major investment will continue to support our customers’ plans for growth and underscores JM’s commitment to growing the composites industry. Additionally, it highlights our drive to enhance customer relationships, product innovation and service excellence.

Further trends in light-weight materials such are carbon fibre to improve fuel efficiency will further support composites growth and require investments in both thermoplastic and thermoset materials. In the thermoset segments, Johns Manville will continue to support growth with StarRov Roving for continuous glass reinforcement and MultiStar Roving for choppable glass strands used in selected market segments.

The expanded furnace, due to start up in the fourth quarter of 2012, will give them added production flexibility and expand the production of selected products by as much as 40%
