Airbus Sets out Composites Recycling Roadmap

Airbus has created the Composite Recycling Advisory Boat to build the company’s strategy for the recycling and reusing of composite materials.

As part of this programme, various research and technology projects for the recycling of carbon fibre reinforced plastic composites are either currently underway or planned throughout Airbus facilities in partnership with external organisations.

These programs look to examine and validate the techniques and industrialisation for recycling and reusing waste products from the CFRP manufacturing process, including both cured and uncured waste materials.

Airbus has targeted for 95% of carbon fibre composite plastic manufacturing waste material to go through a recycling process by 2025, with at least 5% of the waste product to be recycled back into the aerospace sector.
